The creative economy of Indonesia has become a hot topic in recent years. Along with the recognition of Indonesian batik by UNESCO in 2009, the phenomenon has successfully induced the reborn of batik industries. In 2012, a micro-enterprise named Truntum Batik Brawijaya was established to revive Indonesian batik industries. After second year of running, Truntum still has not met the expected growth in sales and profits.
On the other hand, e-commerce brings new opportunity for a company to grow their market. This thesis aims to examine whether e-commerce can be used by Truntum as the alternative solution to improve their business performance. Internal and external studies was performed in this research. The internal study was done to find the root cause, weaknesses, and strengths of Truntum as a business unit. The external study was then executed to know the response of potential customers regarding e-commerce platform specializing in traditional batik cloths. The external study was conducted through literature review, interviews, and questionnaire survey. The result shows that e-commerce platform can be used as a feasible business solution for Truntum.
In order to ensure the platform works, the next step is constructing the value propositions which would be transformed into business model canvas. The e-commerce platform was built and implemented based on the business model canvas. In the implementation step, PDCA (Plan-Do-Check-Act) method was employed so the system could be updated frequently in order to fulfill customers’ needs.
